Les Calanche de Piana (Corse)

Passing the west coast of Corsica you find very bizarre rocks and the street is adapt to the cliffs. One of the most beautiful regions of Corsica is situated in the south of Porto and it is called "Calanche de Piana". This spectacular creation of the abrasion is a typical character of the cultural landscapes in Corsica. These rocks are called "Tafoni" (Corsican for big holes) and they were created by the nature based on the variabilities of humidity and temperature. Today "Les Calanche de Piana" is a UNESCO world cultural heritage. The wonderful journey through this so breathtaking beautiful and magic place starts at Porto. Porto is a small seaside resort with an old Genoese tower.

Following the street direction south there are very lovely places to stay. At nearly every point the panoramic view is fantastic.

Observing the rocks some kind of faces and animals can be seen in the rocks.

At the afternoon, when the sun goes down, the rocks of the "Calanche" glow in a very special form, so that you will stay, never go away and be part of this so spectacular nature.

Balagne and Asco (Corsica)

The "Balagne" in Corsica is situated in the back country of Calvi and Ile Rousse. Many little villages each other nicer than the other, full of beautiful houses and alleyways where nearly every corner is a perfect photo theme. The next picture shows Cateri.

A lot of animals are also living in the "Balagne" and sometimes they are still a subsistence for the people.

In the past the agriculture was very important for this region. Today some artists are living there (and of course the people which are origin from there) and they use to sell their "products" to the tourists.

The valley of the Asco is really natural. Taking a bath, watching the animals or sometimes only lokking to the sky could be very recreative there.

Big waves in Corsica

On Corsica's west coast the sea is sometimes very rough. The sky is blue but the wind is heavy and the waves are breaking at the cliffs on the coast between Calvi and Galeria. The gulls are using the wind for their manoeuvre in flights.

At the beach of Galeria some very courageous people are having fun with the waves.

On this day the waves were all around the west coast enormous high. These pictures show the cliffs of Lumio and a part of the bay of Calvi with its back country.

La Revellata (Calvi, Corse)

Today a very strong wind came up and our diving center decided to go to "La Revellata" because this diving side is protected by cliffs. So, we jumped out of the boat into the waves and began the descend immediatly. On the deep of 20-25m we felt also the strong branding of waves.

After a few minutes i observerd that my external flash doesn't work properly. I looked around and what a miracle... a ray floates very elegant over our heads.

A lot of beautiful red gorgones, yellow anemones and fishes could be found there.

L' epave de B17 (Calvi, Corse)

Situated next to the "Citadelle de Calvi" is the wreck of a US B17 airplane from the second world war. Diving to the cementary of the plane is really a extraordinary adventure. During the last 70 years the animals and the underwater plants took place in and around the plane.

Murenes are having here their "flats". Furthermore scorpionfishes are often seen under the plane.
